Planting Trees with Premier Paper and The Woodland Trust

Premier Paper recently invited 300 of its customers to spend a day with them, helping to plant a variety of trees.

We were one of those customers invited along and were very happy to take part and do our bit.

We’re already proud to contribute to the Carbon Capture Scheme. In a nutshell, the unique scheme also organised by Premier and the Woodland Trust, helps companies in the UK to reduce their carbon footprint.

We do this through planting trees to lock up carbon emissions. For every tonne of paper we order through Premier Paper, we pay the Woodland Trust £8.50. This contribution goes towards the replanting of trees on land acquired for this purpose. You can read more about our contribution to the scheme right here.

So back to the day in question…four of us set off from RNB HQ bright and early on a chilly 21st November and headed down to Heanor in Derbyshire, the destination for Premier Paper’s latest tree planting event.

The day started with a breakfast sandwich and a cup of tea to fuel us for the morning ahead.

We were then greeted by TV presenter Julia Bradbury who presented David Jones, Marketing Director at Premier Paper with a commemorative award to mark an incredible £1,000,000 raised for the replanting of trees.

We headed out, picked up our shovels and started to plant the saplings. The area we were planting on was a former opencast mine that’s been transformed into a haven for wildlife and people.

At the end of the day a staggering 13,000 trees had been planted!

A selection of broadleaf trees, native to the UK found their new homes in what will be called the Young People’s Forest.  The forest will form a giant classroom for children and young people as they’ll be planting trees, learning about nature as well as designing, delivering and taking in part in activities.

What a thoroughly rewarding day we all had. A big thank you to Premier Paper for inviting us along!
